How To Create A Website for Beginners
To many of us, creating a website sounds like a huge job, but it really isn’t that hard or too much for anyone to understand or do it on their own; if I could do it, so can you.
On average, total cost of a website is around $69 a year. Yes, for a whole year! Don’t waste your time with those create-a-website-for-free things; see my “Why Free Websites Are Bad for Everybody“.
There are three main elements to a website:
- The Domain Name — Also know as the URL, this is the address of your site on the internet.
- The Host — This is where your site lives and its information (text, images and multimedia files) is stored.
- The Design — The look of your site.
The Domain Name
In technical terms, it is a name that identifies a computer or computers on the Internet; it’s confusing, isn’t it? Stick with this instead, a domain name (like yahoo.com or google.com) is the address of your site on the internet.
Domain names are allowed to have letters, digits, and hyphens. No other characters may be used in a domain name. Domain names are also not case sensitive. A domain name must be registered and paid for yearly to companies that handle registration. Click here for a list of companies and their services.

The Web Host
This is where your site lives and its information (text, images and multimedia files) is stored. More importantly, a web host provides environment (like Windows or UNIX or Linux or Mac) on which your site runs.
Different companies charge different: monthly, quarterly, bi-annually or annually. The longer the term, the more you’ll save.
